The legendary footballer and Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain has been crowned the best player in men’s football at The Best FIFA Football Awards. Messi was up against stiff competition from his Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema, but his outstanding performances from August 2021 to December 2022 earned him the Best FIFA Men’s Player award for the second time in his career.
This achievement puts him on par with Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski’s impressive feat at the FIFA awards. The special award was first introduced in its current form in 2016, ending FIFA’s five-year partnership with the Ballon d’Or. Messi previously won the award in 2019 during his time at Barcelona, and his latest triumph solidifies his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
